Hi Everyone,

I know some of you are itching to get back into training at the pool, even in winter! It feels like it has been forever, doesn’t it. Well it has… sixteen long weeks in fact. We miss you and we can’t get back into it!

We have been advised by the management of the City of Sydney Council pools they will be looking to have external providers return either late July or early August. Of course the question is, how many swimmers can we have per lane? There is much yet we need to discuss. I will keep you updated as I know more.

You know what they say, ‘the team that swims together, stays together.’ What a great photo of Ghassan, Caroline and Michael who were all swimming down the South Coast over the past few months since COVID-19 hit. I have been fortunate to have had a few wonderful swims with Amanda at Clovelly and Coogee and recently had a great swim session with Caroline and Shayne at Victoria Park Pool. If anyone is interested in joining us on week day morning, let me know. Three to a lane, but still great to swim with others even if it’s to a rather home spun, elastic style program.

We’re delighted with the uptake of our 6 Week Virtual Training Plan. The feedback has been very positive, with all swimmers saying they enjoyed the structure and felt their swim fitness improve. I have to say I wish I had signed up, as I’ve just injured my rotator cuff by going back too hard and with hand paddles! If you’re keen to undertake a well managed and appropriate return to training you’ll find the details below.

I felt like we all need a bit of inspiration at the moment, so I thought I’d share one swim event which is still on (at this stage) next year in New Zealand. Take a look further down in the newsletter. I think it looks great!

Until we see you back at training, stay safe and well and I hope to see you poolside soon.

As always, yours in swimming,

Kari Baynes
