Getting back into our regular swimming routines is exciting, and in the process some of us are also thinking a lot about the gear we use, why we use it, and how much it helps.
First things first, make sure you have a comfy pair of swimmers of your preferred style. Here’s a great list we found for women’s training swimwear to get you started. There are some great local brands to look at too, Catfish, Funkita and Budgy Smugglers to mention a few. Next step is your cap and goggles: these do make a difference!
If you’re comfortable and unimpeded by your basic equipment, your swim will be that much more pleasant. Have a look at this article for some great cap suggestions, and here for goggles (our favourites). If you’re a regular swimmer, it can also be a good idea to dedicate a bag to carrying all your gear in (especially for the trip home with wet swimmers and soaked towels)- check out this list of good swim bags if you need some ideas.
Ok that’s our basics covered, what next? Now you can decide what type of swimming you’re going to be doing, and what else you might need to make sure you’re well prepared. For example, if you’re planning on doing some open water swimming, you might consider whether you’d like to swim with a tow float (important where there can be a lot of watercraft, or you’re swimming solo) or not – check out this article for some pros and cons. Extras like any type of shark repellant tech, smart goggles, or stroke tempo counters like this one (that Kari is currently testing out) are all fully optional, but can have benefits for your swimming!
Let us know, have you tried any new equipment lately that you’d recommend? (Or not recommend!) We’d love to hear your experiences with all type of swimming gear, new or old. Head onto our Facebook or Instagram and leave us a comment or shoot us a message to let us know! |
